What is the kid mohair difference?

It's really simple..

kid mohair Naturally the thinner a fibre is the softer and more sought after it becomes because it can be used to make products that feel better against your skin and are of a higher quality. The finest and softest mohair comes from younger and better bred kid goats and this mohair is the only mohair we use for our premium kid mohair yarn and our super soft kid mohair throws. In fact our mohair throws and yarn use 94% kid mohair!

Cheaper and lower quality mohair throws you will find use thicker grades and lower percentages of mohair losing the authenticity of a real mohair throw and the super soft feel.

And that's the kid mohair difference!

Mohair thickness is measured in microns and these are the different grades available:
Superfine Kid   (23-25 micron)
Kid   (26-28 micron) - Thats what we use!
Young Goat   (29 -31 micron)
Adult   (32-34 micron)

Mohair Fibre Characteristics

cream mohair throwIn general mohair has many characteristics that make it superior to other natural fibres and synthetics for both knitting yarns and throws and this is why it has earned its label as a luxury fibre. New Zealand mohair in particular, is well known within the mohair industry to have a naturally brighter white colour and lustre not seen anywhere else in the world due to the atmospheric conditions. This gives New Zealand made mohair products a distinct finish and quality not possible with mohair products anywhere else in the world.

Lustre
Mohair has a natural lustre or sheen which gives it a brilliant vibrancy and shine.  It also takes dye extremely well which leads to longer lasting colours that can’t be matched by Wool, Alpaca, etc.

Warmth
Mohair is a great insulator, being a natural fibre it moderates your temperature naturally holding in heat and allowing moisture to escape.

Durability
Mohair fibres won't pill (bubble) like wool can and it is the most durable natural fibre in the world. Products made from Mohair last for years!

Softness
Depending on the grade of mohair it can be a super soft to the touch or at the other end of the scale slightly scratchy. As mentioned above we use only super soft kid mohair in our products so they are extremely soft and comforting.

Weight
Mohair is a very lightweight fibre so it doesn't have the bulk weight feeling of other products.
